AREAS OF EXPERTISE:
Higgs boson search, particle detectors, search for supersymmetric particles
Ia Iashvili helped plan and build the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) detector of the Large Hadron Collider, the strongest particle accelerator in the world.
She is among researchers worldwide who participated in CMS experiments to search for the Higgs boson, a subatomic particle that could help explain why objects have mass. In 2012, physicists from the CMS experiment and their colleagues announced that they had detected a Higgs-like particle.
Iashvili is one of two CMS scientists in charge of jet energy scale calibration, a process that is critical to the CMS project’s ability to identify different Higgs and other particles.
